SONARI, Oct 21 - Bypolls to 106 Sonari Legislative Assembly passed off peacefully today. Continuous rain since last night till this evening interrupted the polling as some voters remained absent.

A total of 71.3 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise. The total number of voters was 1,70,472, out of which total votes polled were 1,21,547. The number of males who cast their votes were 63,134 (72.47%) while 58,413 females also exercised their franchise (70.08%).

The polling percentage was 81 in the last Parliamentary election in Sonari LAC segment. BJP candidate Nabanita Handique cast her vote in 116 No. Polling Station at Sapekhati Higher Secondary School, Congress candidate Sushil Suri cast his vote in 100 No. Polling Station at Rangapather LP School, Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi exercised his franchise in 160 No. Polling Station at Nagahat High School.
