GUWAHATI, April 23 The Kamrup Metro district administration today said that it has completed a major eviction exercise under which a 700-foot wall along the Pamohi channel has been demolished.

The brick wall, 700 feet long and six feet tall, had been constructed illegally and in violation of GMDA rules, under which no construction activity can take place within six metres of a natural water body, said an official.

The Azara Circle staff had started the demolition work some days back and it was completed today.

The demolition was carried out on orders of Additional Chief Secretary MGVK Bhanu, who had earlier carried out a field survey of the area, said the official, adding that no permission from either the GMDA or the localgaon panchayatwas taken before construction of the wall by a private party.

The Pamohi, which flows from Gorchuk to Deepor Beel, is a major channel for flow of rainwater away from the city.
