TURA, Jan 16 - In another sensational abduction case in North Garo Hills, seven traders belonging to Goalpara district of Assam were kidnapped at gunpoint by a group of militants in Kalwe Ading village under Kharkutta block.
The incident happened yesterday at about 3.30 pm when a few vehicles were returning to Darangre from Dokongsi weekly market and were stopped by the armed group. The group took away seven people in their custody, all from neighbouring Assam, while letting another five go unharmed.
�Two groups of traders were returning from Dokongsi weekly market, when their vehicle was stopped by a group of six to seven armed militants near Kalwe Ading and were abducted�, said Ramesh Singh, SP, North Garo Hills.
The traders have been identified as � Tustu Paul, Manoranjan Sarkar, Putul Mukherjee, Piyush Biswas, Pradip Das, Bijoy Sarkar and Ganesh Basu. They hailed from Darangre in Goalpara district.
Two traders, who had witnessed the abduction, reported the matter to Kharkutta police outpost today.
There were around 12 traders in the vehicle. �The police and CoBRA commandos are on the job to find the whereabouts of the traders�, added Singh.
About two months ago, about 13 people were kidnapped by militants near Wageasi village in the district. Most of them were released later allegedly upon payment of ransom. Very few FIRs were lodged in the case.
