GUWAHATI, Feb 19 � Seven persons died and as many persons sustained injuries when a Mahindra Savari car they were travelling, collided head-on with a truck near Kawoimari on the NH 37 under Chaygaon police station around 1:30 am today.
The dead have been identified as Lalit Barman (39), Satya Rajbongshi (46), Jayanta Bhojel (25), Deepak Das (42), Paddeswar Das (35), Dinesh Konwar (52) and Biju Das (32).
The injured have been shifted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, police sources said.
The incident took place when the speeding Savari car occupied by 14 persons, was heading towards Boko.
�Of the 14 persons, most of them, including the driver Biju Das, were under the influence of alcohol and were heading towards Boko to attend a marriage ceremony,� police said.
�Of the 14 persons, seven died on the spot and the condition of three of them is stated to be critical,� sources said, adding that the Savari car was completely damaged.
The driver of the truck also sustained minor injuries.
The rescue work was done by Chaygaon police with the help of Khetri police.
