By Newmai News

IMPHAL, March 25 - At least seven co-passengers, who were in the same flight with the 23-year-old woman who tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, voluntarily turned up for necessary tests at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) here today.

The Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory of the Department of Microbiology of JNIMS is the only testing centre for the viral disease in Manipur, approved by the Union Health Ministry.

All the seven persons have been put in a Government-designated quarantine centre here till the test results are announced, a hospital source said.

A police source said that five persons who boarded the same flight with the infected woman, were among 13 persons quarantined at a government facility in Bishnupur district. They were picked from their respective homes by authorities of the State Medical Directorate with the assistance of the police.

The State Home Department, in an order issued on Tuesday after detection of the first COVID-19 positive case, directed all passengers who arrived at Imphal along with the infected woman in the same flight to report to the authorities of the State Medical Directorate. They may be quarantined, if necessary.

A notification also warned the passengers failing to get themselves medically examined, that they would be prosecuted under sections 269 and 270 of the IPC.
