69th Republic Day celebrated with gaiety all over Assam

GUWAHATI, Jan 27 - The 69th anniversary of India becoming a republic was celebrated with gaiety all over the State. Our Correspondents and ANN Service report:

JORHAT: Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal unfurled the Tricolour at the Jorhat Court Field yesterday on the occasion of 69th Republic Day function organised in the district headquarters along with rest of the country.

Mittal, who was chief guest of the function, in his address, paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, all other freedom fighters and martyrs who fought against the British rule. On the occasion he felicitated noted freedom fighter Debeswar Doloi and several freedom fighters. Seven centenarians (All 105 years old) were also felicitated in the function.

Earlier, the DC took salute from a march past carried out by contigents of Assam Police, Home Guards, CISF, CRPF and cadets of NCC and Scouts.

A colourful cultural programme which included display of tableus by different government department and agencies was organised on the occasion.

NAGAON: To mark the 69th Republic Day of the country, the central function of Nagaon was held at Nurul Amin Stadium where Minister Rihan Daimari formally unfurled the National Tricolour. Addressing the gathering, the minister paid tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their life for the freedom of the country.

The Minister paid floral tributes at the statue of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, architect of modern Nagaon Motiram Bora and freedom fighters Netaji Subhash Ch Bose, Haladhar Bhuyan, Purna Ch Sarma, Gupinath Bordoloi, Deva Kt Borooah and Mahendra Nath Hazarika.

The Nowgong Lions Club observed the day with the hoisting of flag at club premises by its president Binod Kr Khetawat. The Sadou Asam Gramya Puthibharal Santha, Nagaon Kala Mandir and different educational institutions also observed the day. The Ramanujan Junior College took out a procession to mark the day.

Goalpara: The National Triclour was unfurled by the chief guest Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Dass at the Junior Technical School ground to celebrate the 69th Republic Day organised by the district administration.

A number of contingents from the district police, schools and colleges participated in the Republic Day parade where both the contigents from Sainik School Goalpara were adjudged as the best contingents under uniform category and Goalpara Jatiya Vidyalaya under non uniform category.

A number of distinguished people were also felicitated. A cultural programme was also held on the occasion. In the evening, acolourful band display event was organised at the initiative of the district administration at the ASTC point, was witnessed by a huge crowd. School bands from Sainik School Goalpara and Nirmala English School, Damra took part in the event.

TINSUKIA: Republic Day was celebrated with gaiety amidst tight security. The Tricolour was unfurled at a function held centrally at the ITI field, Boroguri here by the Water Resource and Science and Technology Minister Keshab Mahanta. He also inspected the guard of honour and took the salute of the march past. He distributed prizes to the successful candidates of various competitions, meritorious students, sports personnel etc., who had brought laurels to the district. The function was also attended by the Deputy Commissioner, Oinam Sarankumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, Mugdhajyoti Mahanta besides other dignitaries.

Tezpur: With the rest of the State, the 69th Republic Day was celebrated with pomp and gaiety at the Church Field. Minister for Veterinary and Agriculture, Government of Assam, Atul Borah unfurled the Tricolour and received the guard of honour presented by the Assam Police, Home Guards, NCCs of different schools and colleges including Darrang College, Tezpur College, Sacred Heart School, Don Bosco High School, Government Boys� High School and Bengali Boys and Girls High School.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Atul Bora said that he felt proud to unfurl the Tricolour in historic place like Tezpur from where national icons like Padmanth Gohain Boruah, Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Chandra Nath Sharma etc., started the building of a new Assam. The programme was attended by local MLA Brindaban Goswami among other dignitaries.

DIPHU: Along with the rest of the country, the 69th Republic Day was observed with great enthusiasm and pomp and gaiety across the district in Karbi Anglong here on Friday. The National Flag was hoisted in all government offices, buildings and educational institutions early in the morning. At around 8 am, a long procession was taken out by school and college students from the town to the parade ground for the ceremonial function.

Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang unfurled the National Tricolour at the official Republic Day celebration programme at Diphu on Friday defying a shutdown call given by a few ultra outfits.

Three centenarian women whose average age is above 105 years were honoured as a part of the freedom struggle of the nation.

KOKRAJHAR: Along with rest of the country, the 69th Republic Day was also observed at Kokrajhar, with a day-long colourful programme. The Chief of the BTC Hagrama Mohilary unfurled the Tricolour at the Government HS & MP School playground amid a huge gathering.

Earlier, the chief of the BTC took the Guard of Honour in Kokrajhar and distributed rewards and citations of honour to the beneficiaries and those for outstanding performances in various fields. Senior journalist of Kokrajhar Mustafa Hussain and three senior most citizens of Kokrajhar who have crossed 100 years also received citation from the chief of BTC on the occasion.

On the other hand, NTPC Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project (Salakati), Kokrajhar also celebrated the 69th Republic Day of India in a grand and befitting manner. Dipankar Bose, Group General Manager, NTPC Bongaigaon unfurled the National Flag and address the gathering.

On the occasion, Corporate Social Responsibility in association with Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project, NTPC Ltd distributed bicycles to girl students from the villages of Kathalguri, Gaurangtary, Dholmara, Silkatarai, Siljani and Saharpur.

Morigaon: The 69th Republic Day was observed here at Morigaon with a day-long colourful programme. Amidst a huge gathering, the National Flag was hoisted by Hemen Das, Deputy Commissioner, Morigaon at Tarun Ram Phukan playground. The DC formally took the gun salute of Police and NCC and students of different schools and colleges of the district. The DC also paid floral tributes.

DERGAON: The 69th Republic Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Dergaon. The Tricolour was unfurled by the Dergaon Circle officer Homen Gohain Baruah at the central programme held at Naren Sarma Memorial field here. Taking part as the chief guest, the Dergaon MLA Bhabendra Nath Bharali highlighted the different schemes taken up by him. The chairman of the Dergaon Municipality Board Arunav Kalita also took part in the programme. The circle officer also took the salute of the march past of the NCC cadets. The Day was also celebrated at Dergaon police complex.

RANGIYA: The 69th Republic Day was celebrated with all patriotic fervour and enthusiasm here at Rangiya HSS playground in the presence of a huge public gathering. The National Flag was hoisted by the SDO (Civil) of Rangiya Munindra Bordoloi. Earlier, troupes from different NCC and Scouts and Guides from educational institutions including Rangiya College, JNV, Rangiya, SSN, Assam Police Battalion etc., presented a colourful march past and guard of honour was given to the chief guest. Local MLA Bhabesh Kalita, freedom fighter Krishna Kt Lahkar, senior citizen and retired faculty, Pub Kamrup College, Pabin Kalita, Election Officer of Rangiya, SDC, Rangiya, SDPO, Rangiya besides other Government officials and distinguished guests were present on the occasion.

KALAIGAON: Republic Day was celebrated at Kalaigaon and Bhergaon with gaiety. At Kalaigaon, Biraj Kumar Barua, Circle Officer, Kalaigaon Revenue Circle hoisted the flag at Gandhi Bakori field, before receiving salutes from various contingents in the presence of nearly 1000 people. The Kalaigaon HS School boys team won the first prize in the march past event.

At subdivisional HQ Bhergaon DN Hazarika, ADC, Udalguri cum SDO (Civil) i/c Bhergaon subdivision hoisted the National Flag. Seven contingents of police and schools took part in march past event. Alangbar HS team won first prize. Several people were felicitated for their contribution in respective fields in Bhergaon subdivision.

DOOMDOOMA: Republic Day was also observed at Doomdooma. The day�s programme began with garlanding of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi by the former secretary of Doomdooma Mahila Samity, Jamini Barman. The main programme of the day was held at Doomdooma Town Field where Pankaj Nagbonshi, the Circle Officer of Doomdooma Revenue Circle unfurled the Tricolour. Lions Club of Doomdooma Tea City felicitated social activist Govinda Phukan and meritorious students Murarilal Gurg. Republic Day was also observed at the Doomdooma Press Club (DPC), where DPC president Anuj Kalita hoisted the Tricolour

NALBARI: The 69th Republic Day was celebrated in Nalbari district with pomp and gaiety. The Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari district, Sanjeeb Kumar Das hoisted the National Tricolour at the central function held at Nalbari SP office parade ground. Thousands of people gathered in programme. The Deputy Commissioner also inspected the guard of honour presented by the security personnel and the students of local schools just after hoisting the National Flag. On the occasion, the district administration felicitated seven freedom fighters of the district for their sacrifices in the freedom movement.

MANGALDAI: Republic Day was celebrated amidst tremendous enthusiasm and gaiety in Darrang district. In the centrally organised main function of the celebration organised by the district administration here at the Kachari Maidan, Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kr Barman as the chief guest hoisted the National Tricolour in the presence of the SP, Sreejith Thiraviam, MLA, Mangaldai Gurujyoti Das, freedom fighters Madhab Ch Barua, Maheswar Bora and other distinguished guests besides a large number of democracy loving local people, students and Government officials.

Republic Day was celebrated at the Mangaldai District Jail by the jail inmates. Sat Ram Nath, a life convict and the senior most inmate unfurled the National Tricolour in the presence of the Jail Superintendent Ashok Kr Goswami, jailor Munindra Ch Sarma other jail officials and around 180 inmates on the day.

Sonari: The 69th Republic Day was celebrated at Sonari, the headquarters of Charaideo district. Unfurling the Tricolour, chief guest Vivekananda Phukon, Deputy Commissioner, Charaideo remembered the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs of freedom struggle. Local MLA Tapan Gogoi and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Freedom fighters Matram Hatimuria, Golapi Chetia, Purnakanta Gogoi, Jugen Phukon and Padaram Phukon were felicitated on the occasion. Students of nine schools took part in parade out of which Patsaku College team was adjudged the best team.

Badarpur: The 69th Republic Day was celebrated at Railway and Civil towns Badarpur and the district HQ town Karimganj with gaiety and enthusiasm. The main functions were held at the Badarpur NC College playground and the Karimganj Government School Sports field, where the National Flags were hoisted by the Badarpur Circle Officer Deepmala Gowala and Karimganj Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Talukdar respectively.

Teok: The 69th Republic Day was celebrated at Teok on Friday. The main function was held at Teok High School field where Bhaskar Jyoti Rajbanshi, Circle Officer, Teok Revenue Circle unfurled the Tricolour and received salutation from a parade of students participating from different schools of the area. In the march-past, Holy Flower School was adjudged the first. Later in the afternoon, a friendly cricket match was held at the venue between Teok Press Club and Circle Office, Teok.

Baihata Chariali: The 69th Republic Day was also celebrated at Amingaon parade ground with a day-long colourful programme. Chandra Mohan Patowary, Transport and Industry Minister hoisted the National Tricolour before a huge gathering. In the programme, Kamal Kumar Baishya, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (R), Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Superintendent of Police, Kamrup (R) along with heads of some other institutions and offices were present. Synchronising with the Republic Day, the Sila forest range office had opened a free sapling distribution center there and at the end different prizes were also distributed by the district administration.

Sivasagar: Republic Day celebrations in Sivasagar district passed off peacefully. Unfurling the Tricolour at the historic Boarding Field in Sivasagar, Pallab Lochan Das, Minister of Power, greeted the people on the occasion and said that the NDA Government in the State has brought about a change in governance by catering to the genuine needs of the marginal sections. The Minister took salute from 19 contingents of NCC, Scouted & Guides, Assam Police, CRPF, Industrial Security Force, naval units and band from Ligiripukhuri APBN.
