67 new cases in Jorhat, tally at 1341

JORHAT, July 25 - As many as 67 Covid-19 positive people were found in Jorhat district on Saturday thereby raising the total number of positive cases in the district to 1341.

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati on Saturday evening informed that all 67 cases were without travel history.

Among the 67cases, 21 were from Jorhat town, the Deputy Commissioner stated. She said that the number of active cases in the district on Saturday was 769.

6 under-trials, 2 staff of Central Jail, Jorhat positive: Meanwhile, six under-trial inmates and two staff of Central Jail, Jorhat were found positive for Covid-19.

A jail official said that the six under-trials, who tested positive were sent to judicial custody by a court in the past few days and already were kept in isolation in the jail after swab samples of them were collected when they were lodged as per department's instructions.

The official stated that as the results of the six tested positive five of them were continuing their stay at an isolation cell in the prison and one who was granted bail by a court has been shifted to a Covid-19 Care Centre in the district.

The official further informed that the pharmacist and a guard of the jail, who too tested positive have been placed under home-quarantine.

Majuli Covid-19 cases goes up to 53: In the meantime, with two more persons found positive for Covid-19 in Majuli on Saturday, the total number of positive cases in the Brahmaputra island reached 53, a district administration official informed.
