66th edition of Rongali Bihu at Latasil

GUWAHATI, March 23 - To celebrate the ensuing Rongali Bihu with all its grandeur, preparations have started in full swing on the Latasil playground, where the Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani will be holding the 66th edition of the Bihu programme this year.

The main pillar (lai khuta) of the Bihu programme was installed jointly by the Satradhikar of Auniati Satra Dr Pitambar Dev Goswami and president of the Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani Kailash Sarma at a function held today.

The four-day programme will begin on April 14 and culminate with the coveted event of the celebration, the Bihu Samragyi competition. The Bihu celebration will be inaugurated with flag hoisting by social and cultural activist Arunamoyee Bishaya. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will be present at the function as the chief guest.

After installing the lai khuta, Dr Dev Goswami said that over the years, the Latasil Bihu programme has kept the essence of Bihu celebrations intact.

Remembering the contributions of Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah, Bhubaneswar Barua, Kshiradakanta Bishaya and Dhiren Baruah among others, he said that amid the chaos prevailing in society, culture is the force which can unite people and foster brotherhood.

Dhiren Baruah, chief adviser to the Sanmilani was also present on the occasion. Bihu dance and songs were presented by different groups on the occasion.
