66,377 students covered by Gunotsav in Hailakandi dist

HAILAKANDI, April 10 - Altogether, 66,377 students of 1519 LP and ME schools of Hailakandi district were covered during the three-day Gunotsav programme.

Informing this, Additional Deputy Commissioner FR Laskar, who looks after the Education Department of the district, said that the original target of the students of Gunotsav was 78,057 in Hailakandi. Of them, 14.80 percent students were absent during Gunotsav. Haji Kalamia LP School of Kuchila was exempted from Gunotsav in Hailakandi district.

Earlier, Gunotsav was scheduled to be held at 1,520 schools. The evaluators in Gunotsav included the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Mission Director, secretaries, MLAs and other different categories of officers. A Headmaster of 151 Rongpur Maktab LP School named Munib Uddin Barbhuiya was suspended for alleged �negligence� of duty before Gunotsav.

Despite rain, thundershower and water-logging, Gunotsav was held in Hailakandi district, though the venue of 60 schools were shifted to safer places nearby.

ADC Laskar informed that during the three-day Gunotsav, the presence of students in schools was 82 per cent on the first day, while it was 84 and 88 per cent respectively on the following two days. Laskar said that of the 1,519 schools, 657 schools were in Hailakandi Block, while 473 and 389 schools were in Lala and Katlicherra education blocks respectively.

He expressed satisfaction for successfully organising Gunotsav throughout the district with the help of all categories of officials.

Laskar said that Gunotsav has made the teachers of LP and ME schools �disciplined�. They are now regularly going to school and imparting lessons with utmost sincerity. He hoped that regular organisation of such event in the schools would hone the skills and qualities of the teachers.
