64 non-tribals expelled from Mizoram

AIZAWL, June 8 - At least 64 non-tribals have been expelled from Mizoram on Monday, police sources said.

Police said that a massive campaign was launched in the State capital here by the police recently to identify non-tribals living in Mizoram without possessing Inner Line Permit (ILP). During a surprise check on Monday, police rounded up 74 people for allegedly misusing and not possessing ILP cards. The arrested people were produced before court and out of 77 arrested, 64 were expelled after the court order.

The State police has been conducting regular check on ILP and have arrested 2,221 people for violation of the ILP this year. Of this, 2040 people were expelled to their native places after the court order.
