63 in fray in North Lakhimpur

By Correspondent

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Feb 7 Sixty-three candidates are in the electoral fray for the 14 wards under the North Lakhimpur Municipal Board. All major political parties Congress, BJP and AGP have fielded candidates for all the wards. The AIUDF has put up their candidates in two wards. This party is also extending support to an Independent candidate in one ward.

The Congress expelled nine of its members when they filed nomination papers after failing to get party tickets. While the Congress is facing infighting, the mood has been jubilant in the BJP camp. On the other hand, the AGP has fielded young and new faces in all the wards at the initiative of local MLA Utpal Dutta.

However, some Independent candidates also hold good prospects. Polling will take place on February 9 along with the rest of the State. As many as 39,295 voters will exercise their franchise in the civic polls here.
