616 human traffickers held in State

NEW DELHI, Aug 18 � In the last 10 years, 236 cases of human trafficking have been recorded in Assam, and 616 human traffickers were arrested under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Krishna Tirath in reply to a Rajya Sabha question by Bhubaneswar Kalita said that under the Ujjawala Scheme, 21 projects have been sanctioned in the north-eastern States of Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland. Of these 19 projects are being provided financial assistance. In the four States, 12 rehabilitation homes have been sanctioned under the scheme.
