60 railway coaches converted into isolation wards

DOOMDOOMA, April 9 - The Tinsukia Railway Division of NF Railway has converted 60 railway coaches into isolation wards to accommodate COVID-19 persons. This is a new initiative on the part of the railways to combat the COVID-19 in case of a larger outbreak of the disease, said Ashish Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Tinsukia.

He also informed that 30 coaches have been kept at the New Dibrugarh (Banipur) Railway Station and rest are at the Dibrugarh Workshop.

These are all non-AC sleeper coaches that are being converted with a total facelift so as to suit medical beds, informed Senior Divisional Engineer (Mechanical) TK Maity. These 60 coaches are equipped with eight cabins, which can accommodate 480 patients and medical staff.

Drive against illicit liquor: The Excise Department of Tinsukia district has conducted extensive drives against illicit liquor across the district since March 23 and detected 92 cases. As many as 31 raids were conducted and seven people were arrested for their involvement in illicit liquor trade between the period from March 25 to April 7, informed Himan Jyoti Bora, Superintendent of Excise, Tinsukia. The raids were conducted in various places under the circles of Tinsukia (Sadar), Tinsukia (Railway), Doomdooma, Dholla, Kakopothar, Sadiya, Margherita and Digboi.
