GUWAHATI, May 15 - Meghashree Borah of Sankardev Shishu Bidya Niketan (Lakhimpur) and Selim Ahmed of Rakhaldubi High Madrassa (Goalpara) have topped the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination, 2019 and the Assam High Madrassa Examination, 2019 respectively, the results of which were announced this morning.
While Meghashree scored 594 out of 600 marks, Selim managed 561 out of 600 marks.
The overall pass percentage of HSLC examination this year is 60.23, an increase from last year�s 56.04 per cent, while the success rate for High Madrassa examination this year stands at 58.18 per cent.
The break-up of pass percentage for male and female candidates in the HSLC examination stands at 62.69 and 57.99 respectively.
Among the districts, Dhemaji once again ruled the roost recording the highest pass percentage of 83.28. This was followed by Sivasagar (70.20 per cent) and Nalbari (70.08 per cent).
Hailakandi recorded the lowest pass percentage among all the districts with 39.01 per cent, followed by Chirang with 43.69 per cent.
Similarly, in the High Madrassa examination, Baksa recorded the highest pass percentage of 81.01.
A total of 3,36,203 candidates, including 1,75,939 female, appeared in the HSLC examination this year, of which 48,599 secured first division and 71,020 secured second division. The number of students securing third division stood at 82,889.
Among the 9,127 candidates, including 5,446 females, who appeared in the High Madrassa examination, 600 secured first division.
From Guwahati, as many as four students managed to make it to the top ten ranks in the HSLC examination. They included three students from St Mary�s HS School � Pratyasha Medhi (2nd), Anushree Bhuyan (3rd) and Christie Saikia (4th).
Priyanka Kalita of Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, Noonmati (Guwahati) also made the cut grabbing the fifth rank.
The number of rank holders this year has increased to 39 from last year�s tally of 37. Of the 39 rank holders, 10 are from government schools.
Among the districts, Nagaon, with eight rank holders, topped the chart, followed by Kamrup (five) and Kamrup (Metro), Lakhimpur and Barpeta with four each.
Significantly, among the eight rank holders from Nagaon, five are from government-run schools.
