JORHAT, Sept 17 - Police on Monday arrested six women from Garmur outskirts here under Garmur police outpost of Jorhat Police Station on charges of abetting a person to commit suicide.

A police source stated that the six women were arrested on charges of inciting Kushal Rajbongshi to commit suicide. Rajbongshi, originally from Udalguri district, who with his family was living in a rented house at Garmur, was found hanging from a ceiling fan of a room of the rented house on Sunday evening.

The arrested women are Madhusmita Das, Bulu Das, Sewali Das, Basonti Hazarika, Dipali Pathak and Kabita Nath Das.

Police arrested the six women after Rajbongshis wife lodged an FIR on Sunday night at the Garmur police outpost alleging that the six women under reference on Sunday morning forcibly took away the bicycle of Rajbongshi and his Pan card from him for not repaying a few instalments of a loan reportedly taken from the said women following which Rajbongshi reportedly committed suicide.

A case No. 2528/2019 was registered at the Jorhat Police Station against all the six women under Sections 306 (Abetment to suicide) and 395 (Punishment for dacoity), the source said.

Rajbongshi, who was working as a salesman in a silk shop here, had along with his sister-in-law sometime back reportedly taken a loan of Rs 1.41 lakh from the said six women to start a business of their own.

However, a few months back, Rajbongshis sister-in-law along with her family allegedly left Jorhat and has not yet returned, thus resulting in the six women allegedly inflicting different kinds of pressure on him frequently, which led him to take the extreme step, the source said, quoting the charge brought by Rajbongshis wife.

All the accused persons were sent to judicial custody by the Chief Judicial Magistrate after they were produced in her court.
