6 ultras lay down arms

IMPHAL, Sept 7 � Six militants including three more PLA cadres surrendered to DGP, Manipur Yumnam Joykumar and Major General C A Krishnan, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) at Mantripukhuri Assam Rifles complex, near here on Tuesday.

With this, the total number of militants who surrendered to the Assam Rifles alone since January this year has climbed to 67, according to Major Sounat Kamat, PRO Assam Rifles (South).

The three new PLA cadres who surrendered along with two pistols with 6 live rounds and one M 16 rifle are H Awangamba, Laishram Priyobarta, and Haobijam Ganeshwar Meitei.

The three others who laid down arms are Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) cadres Ningthoujam Dolen, Heigrujam Ngongo andUnited People�s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) cadre RK Naocha. The two KCP cadres laid down two small arms while the UPPK cadre an AK-47 rifle.

DGP Manipur Y Joykumar speaking at the surrender ceremony, assured all possible help for the surrendered ultras to become part of the mainstream and lead a normal life.

The surrendered militants will be sent for rehabilitation after screening, a senior Assam Rifles officer said.
