6 more COVID-19 deaths in Tripura

AGARTALA, Aug 7 - Tripura has recorded six deaths due to COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, official sources said. With the latest casualties, the virus death toll rose to 36, which is the second highest in the North East after Assam.

Altogether 2,764 swabs were tested for COVID-19 on Thursday, out of which 128 persons tested positive. The total number of positive cases now stand at 5,851. So far, 3,860 patients have also recovered.

In another development, as many as 31 Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans engaged in the OTPC-run Palatana power plant in Gomati district, have tested COVID-19 positive. All the infected jawans have been shifted to a COVID Care Centre for treatment.

Meanwhile, the State Government has increased the containment zones from 186 to 190. As of Friday, a total of 3,949 people have been put under surveillance, including 255 in facility quarantine and 3,694 in home quarantine. While Tripura�s positivity rate stands at three per cent, the recovery rate is 67.42.

The Health Department has already initiated the process to introduce plasma therapy to fight against COVID-19. But some facilities need to be made available in the dedicated COVID-19 treatment centre at the GB Pant Hospital here before opting for a new treatment procedure to save critical patients.
