6 killed in road mishap

GOALPARA,April 29 � A fatal road accident claimed six lives when a truck (AS-18 C/2285) which was going towards Agia hit an autorickshaw (AS-18 C/1892) coming from the opposite side at Bhalukdubi Bazar near Nirmala Nursing Home.

Four of ill-fated passengers died on the spot, while the driver and a passenger later succumbed to their injuries at the Goalpara Civil Hospital.

Soon after the incident, the Goalpara-Pancharatna road was blocked by angry protestors and some unruly autorickhaw drivers stopped all the vehicles for almost two hours causing harassment to general public as well as to those who were travelling along that stretch of road in their private vehicles.

Speaking to this correspondent, Deepak Das, OC, Goalpara Sadar, said that the truck sped away from the scene of accident and was later found near Solmari. Both the driver and the handyman are absconding and the police are on their lookout.

Meanhwile, the bodies of Erolene Marak (50 years), Broz Belina Marak (45), Seminla Marak (57) and the auto driver Zakir Hussein have been identified by the police.
