6 GNLA cadres surrender in Garo Hills

TURA, Nov 9 � In a huge setback to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), six more cadres of the outfit today surrendered to the police at Resubelpara in North Garo Hills.

The six had deserted the GNLA camp in West Khasi Hills along with another six cadres led by one Jongman. The surrender took place at about 1.30 pm today.

The GNLA had earlier confirmed through a press release that Skylance and another senior cadre Jongman had deserted camp. The GNLA had in fact accused them of kidnapping a teacher attributed by the police to the GNLA.

�Skylance and Jongman had both deserted GNLA when they were transferred to the camp in West Khasi Hills. They deserted with another 10 cadres. Jongman is still at large�, said SP NGH, Jerry FK Marak.

Marak said, �There are only 10 more cadres of the second batch of the GNLA still remaining with the group.� The cadres surrendered to the police with an AK-47, two magazines and 58 rounds of ammunition, one psitol with magazine and five rounds, one grenade and one wireless set.

Questioning of the surrendered cadres is currently on.
