6-day judicial custody for Samedur Rahman

GUWAHATI, Nov 23 - As per the direction of the Special Judge, Assam (Guwahati), arrested Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) member Samedur Rahman was today produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Guwahati, which again remanded him to six days� judicial custody for reflection.

The six days� judicial custody, as mandated by the CRPC and authorities of the Supreme Court, is given primarily to safeguard the accused from any kind of influence from the investigating agency and to ensure that the accused is not subjected to any torture, be it physical or mental. However, the period of reflection varies from case to case.

On the next date of hearing (after six days), Rahman will be eligible to record his confessional statements before the court as per the laid down rules.

Special public prosecutor BK Mahajan, when asked whether Rahman would be an approver in the case, said, �It is not within the domain of his knowledge as of today.�

Rahman on Tuesday expressed his willingness to confess to his guilt before the Court of Special Judge, Assam, which directed the police to produce him before the CJM, Kamrup.
