GUWAHATI, Sept 14 - The 5th National Children Theatre Festival, organised by Guwahati Sishu Natya Vidyalaya, will kick off at Rabindra Bhawan here on January 3 and conclude on January 7.

The festival, which has over the years succeeded in attracting the theatre lovers both old and young, will have a special addition a workshop for school students.

Manik Roy, director of Guwahati Sishu Natya Vidyalaya, informed that theatre personalities of national and international repute will conduct the workshop on drama and acting.

This will be an opportunity for the school students of Guwahati to have first-hand interaction and guidance from well-known theatre personalities, said Roy, adding that the four-day workshop will be held simultaneously along with the festival.

Keeping in mind the cognitive and creative developmental aspects of children, we decided to include a workshop in the festival, said Roy.

A meeting was held recently in connection to the festival, which was chaired by playwright Arun Sarma and attended by many prominent citizens, including writer of children books, Bandita Phukan.

It needs to be mentioned here that the children theatre festival was conceptualised with the aim of creating an atmosphere wherein children can showcase their skill as well as learn through this powerful medium.

Carefully selected plays for the festival, apart from providing entertainment, have always spread the relevant message for the growth and development of children.

Interested theatre groups will have to submit their application along with a video copy of their play to Manik Roy. The last date for submission of application is September 30. Altogether five plays from Assam and five from outside the State will be selected for the festival.
