5th International Yoga Day celebrated

GUWAHATI, June 21 - The 5th International day of Yoga was celebrated with fanfare across the whole State. Our Staff Correspondents, Correspondents and ANN Service report:

SILCHAR: The 5th International Day of Yoga was observed with great enthusiasm by people across Cachar district on Friday.

The central event of the day was organised by the Cachar district administration along with Office of the Joint Director of Health Services at the indoor sports complex of India Club.

Minister of Forests, Fisheries and Excise, Parimal Suklabaidya attended the event as the chief guest and enthused the participants by taking part in the yoga exercises demonstrated on the occasion.

Later in his speech, Suklabaidya said, �the rich heritage of yoga has transcended shores and reached out at a global level due to the constant pursuit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I wish more to come together to inculcate the values of yoga in their routine chores of life.�

Former Union Minister Kabindra Purakayastha, Katigorah MLA Amar Chand Jain, BJP district president Kaushik Rai were among others taking part in the yoga sessions.

In her speech, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri assured the benefits of daily chores of yoga. Madduri urged the people, young and old to delve deep into the values of Yoga and imbibe them in their lives.

The day was observed amidst various activities by people across the district. Rallies were taken out by youngsters and yoga enthusiasts.

Women�s College Silchar in association with the Field Outreach Bureau Silchar, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting organised a yoga session on the college premises to impart the essentials do�s and dont�s of yoga to the students.

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh Airport celebrated 5th International Yoga Day today at the airport premises. Professional yoga instructors were invited to conduct a session on yoga practices and also to enlighten the employees of Dibrugarh Airport about the benefits of yoga. There was participation from all the stakeholders of AAI, which included CISF and the Airlines.

The instructors began their session with meditation. Various yogasanas were practiced later during the session. The instructors also explained how the mind and body gets co-related thereby not letting our mind wander and thus forming an inner harmony because of yoga. The session lasted for an hour and it was enjoyed by all the participants.

At the Brahmaputra Cracker & Polymer Limited (gas cracker complex) campus, Yoga Day was similarly observed and media houses have been provided press releases and photographs, claiming the observance.

Elsewhere in the city, members of the public and a few media reporters also took part in various Yoga Day rituals. People were seen trying out various yoga postures, while others listened to the merits of doing asanas daily.

BAIHATA CHARIALI: Along with the rest of the country, the International Day of Yoga was also celebrated at Amingaon parade ground today under the aegis of Kamrup district administration in association with Sadhana NGO and IYNS . The programme of the day began with banti prajjalan by Kamal Kumar Baishya, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup district. In his inaugural speech, the Deputy Commissioner said that yoga was one of the chief ways of treatment of various ailments and for fitness for all in ancient India. The welcome address was offered by Shyamanta Madhab Sarma, Joint Director of Health and Family Welfare Services, Kamrup district.

In the programme, yoga contests (in individual and group categories) were also held where Shreya Kansal of Sarala Birla Gyanjyoti, Trishna Kakati of MS College and Aditi Todi of Sarala Birla Gyanjyoti were selected for the first, second and third prize respectively. On the other hand, ASHA socio-economic development society and Madan Kamdev Yoga College jointly celebrated the Yoga day at the historic Madan Kamdev Devalaya in association with the self help groups of the area . In the programme, BK Smriti, Director of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya graced the occasion as the chief guest and spoke about the benefit of the practice of Yoga.

DOOMDOOMA : International Yoga Day was celebrated at various places of Doomdooma circle today. Various organisations organised mass yoga demonstration in the morning hours.

The NCC and NSS units of Doomdooma College in association with the Students� Union of the college organised the International Yoga Day in the college auditorium this morning in which the NCC cadets, the NSS volunteers, students and teachers participated in the mass yogasana under the leadership of the NCC officer of the college, Lieutenant Dr Rumi Khalen and NSS officer Birendra Hazarika. Yoga Guru Prabhat Dutta conducted the yogasana and spoke on the importance of yoga. The principal of the college, Dr Prakash Jyoti Borthakur offered the vote of thanks.

The NCC units of Doomdooma Bangiya Vidyalaya and Learners� High School here also organised the day in which they participated in mass yoga under the leadership of NCC officers Tapan Sutradhar and Rumi Medhi. Lectures on the importance of yoga were also delivered by the yoga gurus to the participants. The day was also observed at Rupai ME School where the students of the school participated in yogasana under the guidance of the teacher of the school Avik Bhattacharjee.

TINSUKIA: Along with the rest of the world, in Tinsukia too the International Yoga Day was observed today. On the occasion, the Tinsukia district administration with the cooperation of various organisations and individuals organised a mass yoga camp at the Manav Kalyan Bhawan complex here. Prior to the camp, Deputy Commissioner, Oinam Saran Kumar Singh initiated the programme of lighting the lamp and also delivered a speech highlighting various benefits of regular yoga practice in day to day life of any individual. He also appealed to yoga experts to take active part in spreading message of benefits of different asanas to the masses for better mental and physical health of the people, especially among the upcoming generations.

NALBARI: The Nalbari district administration today celebrated the International Day for Yoga at Mukalmua open auditorium today. The programme was inaugurated by Ashok Sarma, MLA of Nalbari LAC by lighting a ceremonial lamp. In his speech, Sarma said that the old age practice of Yoga in India was established on the international platform by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhusan Dev Choudhury said that the practice of Yoga completely changed the mind set of people and provide divine power to do something positive. In the Yoga day programme, hundreds of people from all walk of life took part.

On the other hand, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nalbari organised International Yoga Day for imbibing the essence of yoga, harmony and peace for the global humanity. Dr Mridul Deka, head of KVK, Nalbari inspired the participants with his spiritual exhortation and delivered a speech on international recognition of yoga in the United Nations.
