By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, March 14 - Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today informed the House that there are 5,894 vacant posts in different departments of the State Government that are yet to be filled.

Replying to a question asked by Opposition Congress member, George B Lyngdoh during question hour, Sangma placed a statement on the table of the House with the vacancy figures.

He said that the vacant posts are till February 2019 and these are different posts for which the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) and the District Selection Committee (DSC) have been entrusted to find suitable candidates.

Appointing authorities were instructed from time to time to ensure intimation of vacancies to the MPSC and DSC, the CM said adding both these authorities are constantly putting out regular advertisements and the selection process is on.

Stating that the selection process is arduous and time consuming, Sangma said that such process cannot be completed within a day or two as the backlog is huge. However, the State Government is also sending reminders to both these appointing authorities to speed up the process so that vacant posts could be filled up at the earliest, he said.
