AIZAWL, July 21 - At least 587 people have been arrested this year till June 30 by State Excise & Narcotics department for violation of Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition and Control) Act (MLPC), a release said.
During this year, the department also filed cases against 626 people under the liquor law.
The second largest arrests were made under Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropics Substances (NDPS) Act. As many as 198 people have been arrested and 135 convicted under this Act. Excise and Narcotics department sources said that under Mizoram Excise Act, 117 people have so far been arrested this year and two were convicted.
