57th foundation day of CSIR-NEIST celebrated

JORHAT, March 19 - CSIR-North East Institute of Science And Technology, on the Pulibor outskirts here, on Sunday celebrated its 57th foundation day with a day-long programme that was attended by the Secretary of Union DoNER Ministry Naveen Verma as the chief guest.

Verma while delivering the foundation day lecture at the Dr JN Baruah Auditorium of the institute, urged upon all scientists to work with an aim to meet the aspirations and expectations of common people.

Verma emphasized on generating need-based technologies and solutions to cater to all sections of the society starting from grass-root level.

The DoNER Secretary suggested that NEIST should establish tie-ups with NEDFi, DoNER Ministry and different State governments to augment the process of transferring technologies developed by NEIST to the entrepreneurs for benefit of the society.

Verma informed about the support and association of DoNER Ministry with CSIR-NEIST for implementation of the scheme, �Science and Technology Intervention in North-East Region (STINER).�

He stressed on tapping the immense natural resources of the region for microhydro projects, developing value-added products from ginger, aromatic plants, bamboo etc.

On the occasion, �Highlights 2017-18 of CSIR-NEIST� was released by Verma.

Verma also inaugurated the �Centre for Advanced Civil Engineering Research� within the institute premises and later interacted with beneficiaries and entrepreneurs of CSIR-NEIST�s technologies at the interaction held in the auditorium premise.

Earlier, the Director of CSIR-NEIST, D Ramaiah, welcomed the gathering and expressed his gratitude to the founding fathers and past employees of the institute.

Dr Ramaiah congratulated all for the institute�s achievements and contributions to the society over the glorious years of its existence.

As part of the celebration, the institute also observed �Open Day� by organizing school students� visit to the institute.
