AGARTALA, July 9 - Tripura reported 57 new cases of COVID-19 last night, taking the total number of active cases in the State to 401. The total cases stand at 1,692. Of these cases, 1,248 have already recovered.

In a Facebook post, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said altogether 1,839 swabs were tested, out of which 57 tested positive. Gomati has registered the highest cases at 22, while West and Sepahijala districts have recorded 10 cases each.

Though COVID-19 cases have been increasing since June, key factors like positivity rate (2.28 per cent), recovery rate (73 per cent), fatality rate (0.6 per cent) and per million tests (18,562) are at a satisfactory level. But the Tripura Government is not lowering its guard, sources said.

Meanwhile, there is fear of community transmission having taken place in the worst affected areas of Sepahijal, Gomati and South districts. However, the Government has not confirmed it. A senior official said adequate steps have been taken to prevent the spread of the virus.

The State Cabinet has already decided to conduct antigen tests on all flight passengers and returnees arriving in Tripura.
