56 arrested in Dimapur mob violence case

DIMAPUR, March 17 � A total of 56 persons have been arrested in connection with the March 5 mob violence in Dimapur that led to the lynching of �rape accused� Syed Farid Khan.

Additional SP and PRO of Dimapur Police K Shouka said that two more persons were arrested on Monday based on prima facie evidences available with the police and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Nagaland Police. He reiterated that the SIT has been making the arrests based on evidences. �We are not randomly arresting people,� he asserted.

Meanwhile, the police issued the third �Lookout Notice� with eight more photographs of persons suspected to be involved in the mob violence and jail break. The police asked the individuals featured in the �Lookout Notices� to present themselves at their respective police stations. If the individuals do not turn themselves up voluntarily, the parents or wards of these individuals are to produce them in the respective police stations, the notice stated. Further, if the above two courses of action are not fulfilled, the gaoburahs, colony chairmen, under whose jurisdiction these persons live or with which student body these students are affiliated to, are to produce them in the police stations.

�In case the above course of action is not acted upon, the Dimapur Police will continue to look out for the featured individuals and detain them as per the law as and when they are tracked down. In case of such an eventuality, the stakeholders mentioned above should not intervene and make any representations or petitions to the police on behalf of the featured individuals,� the police said.

�Failure to surrender may lead to attachment of dependent parents� property and may also call for the declaration of reward against the featured persons and subsequently placing them under the �Wanted� list under the relevant provisions of law,� they added.
