55 persons under observation for coronavirus: Sarma

GUWAHATI, March 3 - The State Department of Health has kept altogether 55 persons who have returned from China under observation as a measure to prevent outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in the State.

Among these people, 46 have completed the 28-day observation period and remaining nine are under observation in home quarantine, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed the Assembly today while replying to a question by MLA Dr Numal Momin.

To prevent the dreaded disease, the department has also alerted all Deputy Commissioners, principals of all government medical colleges and the Joint Director of Health Services in each district.

As part of the mass awareness initiative, the department, in collaboration with the Panchayat & Rural Development department and the Education department, have organised altogether 73 Gram Sabhas in the bordering districts of the State.

In this connection, Numal Momin suggested setting up of surveillance system at railway stations of the State, especially in Guwahati.
