53-year-old woman battling COVID-19, cancer dies at SMCH

SILCHAR, JUNE 12: A 53-year-old woman from Hailakandi, who was COVID-19 positive, passed away at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) at 10.47am on Friday. Hospital sources said she was also battling cancer.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, Dr Babul Kumar Bezbaruah, principal of SMCH, said, �The patient � identified as Mangali Rani Das � was brought and admitted to the COVID-19 ward on June 6. She was fighting with critical gallbladder cancer. She was shifted to COVID-19 ICU. Now, following the SOP, we shall hand over the body to the family.�

Meanwhile, sources said the patient had a travel history of coming from New Delhi.

It may be mentioned here that this is the second casualty from Hailakandi, after 65-year-old Faijul Haque Barbhuiyan, infected with COVID-19, died at the SMCH on April 9.
