AIZAWL, March 18 - Mizoram Local Administration Minister PC Lalthanliana said that there were 53 unauthorised settlements/villages in the State.
In a written reply to a query by Lalruatkima of Mizo National Front (MNF) in the State Assembly on Wednesday, Lalthanliana said that there were 812 villages and 32 sub-villages, including 276 villages within the three district council areas, in the State.
He said that village council authorities were instructed not to allow any unauthorised settlement inside their respective jurisdictions.
�Eviction orders were issued and enforced in cases where such illegal and unauthorised settlements could create problems for the people of the areas,� he said.
He, however, said that some of the unauthorised settlements were accepted as sub-villages by the District Level Screening Committee on the recommendations of the concerned Village Councils. � PTI
