TEZPUR, March 25 � At least 53 people suffering from diarrhoea were admitted to Kanaklata Civil Hospital, sources said today.
According to KCH source 35 children, 11 women and 7 men have been admitted till now in the hospital since last night. The patients are from Gotlong village under Mahabhairab police outpost.
Dr Durlav Saikia, Joint Director Health, Sonitpur informed that all the patients were suffering from acute diarrhoea. Suspecting that contamination of water might be one of the main causes of the diarrhoea, Dr Saikia said it might also be a case of food poisoning and samples of their food have been sent for laboratory test.
Following a visit to the village, he said the Public Health Department has already provided safe drinking water to the affected and nearby areas with the administration taking every possible measure to prevent further spread of the disease.
