NAGAON, March 29 - There are 51 candidates in the fray for 7 Nagaon LACs where three candidates are contesting from Raha, nine from Dhing, eight from Batadrava, eight from Rupahihat, eight from Nowgong, ten from Barhampur and five from Samaguiri. This was informed by the Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan while addressing a press conference here recently.
The DC also appealed to the public to extend their help for peaceful, free and fair elections in the region. Replying to a question, the DC said that no new instruction from the Election Commission came regarding the D voters.
SP YT Gyates also was present in the meeting. Till now illegal cash of Rs 28,88,640 as well as five arms and 63 ammunition have been recovered. There are 2,687 legal arms licence holders in Nagaon and 2,341 persons have deposited their arms. Ten-poll related cases are registered in Nagaon district, he added.
He also said that 21,115 litres of country liquor and 176 litres of IMFL have been destroyed till now.
Election Officer Miftabuddin Ahmed said that more than 5,000 officers have been appointed in Nagaon district which is divided into 28 zones and 127 sectors. There will be web casting in 10 polling stations of each LAC, he added.
Three general observers namely Ramesh Dattatraya Devkar, Arun Kumar Sinha and Shiwendra Singh, besides two Expenditure Observers namely Vikash and Dhileeban have already arrived in Nagaon. ADC Brajen Das was also present at the press meet.
