50 water testing centres in Mizoram

By Newmai News

AIZAWL, Oct 6 Mizoram Pollution Control Board (MPCB) will set up 50 Water Testing Centres in different places across the State, sources said.

Officials of MPCB said there are at present six Water Testing Centres two each at Tlawng and Tuirial, and one each at Vengthlang and Ramhlun North.

Since this is inadequate, we have asked the Central Government for more such centres and now it has been approved to set up water testing centres in 50 different places, MPCB officials said.

As per plan, water testing centres will be set up in 25 places in Aizawl district, in six places in Lunglei district, three different places each in Lawngtlai, Saiha, Mamit, Serchhip and Champhai districts, and in four places in Kolasib district. Water drawn from sources like river, brook, lake and handpump will be tested at the testing centres.

MPCB Member Secretary C Lalduhawma said that the main target is to see whether the people know which source is safe for drinking. We shall conduct the test and examine if the water is safe for drinking, and will send our findings to the government, he said.
