50% NRC forms submitted in Cachar

SILCHAR, Aug 9 - Nearly 50 per cent forms for National Register of Citizens (NRC) have reportedly been submitted in the Cachar district. Giving the information, the district project supervisor, Rajiv Kuram Jha, said that out of 3,72,397 households, as many as 1,71,676 forms for NRC have been submitted. On the other hand, 11,983 forms have been submitted online, he added.

�Since the date for the submissions has been extended, people came in large numbers to submit their forms. A total of 1,83,659 forms (including online and offline data) have been received so far, registering 49.5 per cent till August 6,� Jha said.

Elaborating on the circle-wise rate of submission, Jha said that Silchar circle recorded 48.7 per cent, followed by Sonai (39.90%), Lakhipur (44.35%), Katigorah (44.27%) and Udharbondh (56.07%). There are 160 NRC Seva Kendras operating in the district. The last date for the submission of forms is August 31.

Asked about the non-availability of receipts after the submission of forms, Jha said, �There is no reason to panic as the administration will take all measures to provide receipts to the people in due time.�

Jha claimed that on July 30, NRC Seva Kendra-64 in the district registered a state highest record of receiving 1,007 forms on a single day.
