50 more test positive for virus in Manipur

IMPHAL, Aug 10 - Fifty persons without any significant travel history among 57 locals from the general population tested positive for COVID-19, officials said today. But there is no report of any death as on today.

Forty-three personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) also tested positive for COVID-19.

Confirming this, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, additional director and spokesperson of the state health department in a press release today evening said that they were confirmed as COVID-19 positive cases at Viral Research and Diagnosis Laboratories of RIMS, JNIMS,Babina Diagnostics and other testing centres in the past 24 hours.

They are from Churachandpur, Chandel,Thoubal,Imphal West, Imphal East, Kangpokpi, Kamjong, Kakching and Senapati.

�Seven out of the general population are returnees from other states and the rest 50 are locals without any significant travel history,� the release stated.

They are being shifted to the Covid care facilities, it added. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

In the past 24 hours, 78 persons were discharged, the release said. The cumulative number of positive cases is 3,853, including 876 CAPF, while the cumulative number of discharged cases is 2,122, including 150 CAPF, it added.The cumulative number of active cases is 1720, including 726 CAPF.

�The recovery rate is 55.07 percent,� it said.

Till date, the death toll due to Covid-related cases in the state is 11. On the report of using chlorine dioxide releasing plastic chord devices, the state health department on Sunday said that it does not recommend its use in prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic.
