HAILAKANDI, March 24 - There are in total 50 candidates in the fray in the three Assembly segments of Hailakandi district in the ensuing poll on April 4.
In Hailakandi LAC, there are 23 candidates in the contest which included 13 Independent candidates. Sitting MLA in Hailakandi, Abdul Muhib Mazumdar, was not given ticket this time. The present chairman of Hailakandi Zilla Parishad, Anam Uddin Laskar, was given ticket from the Congress party.
Former AIUDF MLA Selim Uddin Barbhuiya was also not given party ticket and he is fighting as Independent candidate leaving the party membership. In Katlicherra LAC, there are 13 candidates in the fray, including 8 Independents.
Heavyweight Congress candidate-cum-Minister Gautam Roy is fighting for the seventh time in a row in the seat.
