5 test COVID-19 positive at Jorhat

JORHAT, May 25 - Altogether five persons, one of Jorhat while two each from Tinsukia and Sivasagar districts respectively (all returnees from outside Assam), tested positive for Covid-19 today.

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati informed that the first case which tested positive was Azif Hussain (23 yrs/male) of Na-Kachari area of Mariani under Titabar Civil Sub-division of Jorhat district.

She said that Hussain was at present admitted at the JMCH as he was in contact of a positive case which was detected earlier. Korati said he (Hussain) was kept under quarantine even after first test showed negative. The next test result of him was found positive today.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that next person who tested positive is Parthana Borpatragohain (25 yrs/female) from Betbari, Sivasagar, who returned from Kolkata and reached here on May 18.

Korati said that Parthana was quarantined at Jorhat since she was in contact with a positive case detected earlier. The Deputy Commissioner added that Parthana�s first test too tested negative but she tested positive today.

The third person who tested positive is Priyakshi Gogoi (23 yrs/female) of Serekapar, Sivasagar, Korati informed.

She said that Priyakshi too returned from Kolkata on May 18 and was under quarantine at Jorhat. The Deputy Commissioner disclosed that Priyakshi was also in contact with a positive case and, hence, was put under quarantine even after the first test showed her as a negative case.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that the fourth person tested positive is Raktim Tamuli (19 yrs/male) of Kakopothar, Tinsukia who returned from Chennai by road and reached here on May 22 and was quarantined at Jorhat.

Korati further stated that the fifth person who tested positive is Mintu Borah, (29yrs/male) of Kakopothar, Tinsukia, who too returned from Chennai by road and reached here on May 22. He was under quarantine at Jorhat, the Deputy Commissioner added.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that all the five patients are asymptomatic and were shifted to Covid-19 wing of JMCH.

2 Covid-19 patients discharged: Meanwhile, two Covid-19 patients undergoing treatment at JMCH since May 17 were discharged from Covid-19 wing of JMCH this afternoon after they recovered from the disease.

Abdul Samim of Sivasagar and his nine-year-old cousin brother from Jorhat (both returnees from Delhi) have been released from JMCH today and were sent home.
