By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 19 - All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has denied party tickets to five sitting legislators for the forthcoming Legislative Assembly polls.

The party has released its fifth list of candidates containing 23 names.

However, the names of five sitting MLAs are missing in the list. The MLAs who have not been given ticket are Jahan Uddin from Dhubri, Gul Akhtara Begum from Bilasipara East, Monowar Hussain from Goalpara East, Moin Uddin Ahmed from Jaleswar and Mazibur Rahman from Rupohihat.

As per the list, Nazrul Hoque will be the AIUDF candidate from Dhubri, Muslem Uddin Chowdhury from Bilasipara East, Shaheed Mazumdar from Goalpara East, Abdur Razzaque Mollah from Jaleswar and Nurul Amin Chowdhury from Rupohihat.

A senior AIUDF leader said that the five MLAs were not given tickets from their constituencies following internal survey by the party.

He, however, refused to say anything when asked if the five MLAs may be accommodated from other constituencies.

AIUDF had won 18 seats in the 2011 Assembly polls. Two of the party MLAs Sherman Ali Ahmed from Baghbar and Ataur Rahman Mazharbhuiya from Katigora had joined the Congress recently.

However, some of the other party MLAs have been retained as per the latest list. Among them are Sheikh Shah Alom (Goalpara West), Abul Kalam Azad (Bhabanipur), Abdur Rahim Khan (Barpeta), Hafiz Rafiqul Islam (Jania), Ali Hossain (Sarukhetri), Haji Aminul Ismal (Dhing), Gopi Nath Das (Boko) and Swapan Kar (Lumding).

With the latest list, the party has so far announced candidates for 67 constituencies. Its alliance partners Janata Dal (United) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will be contesting five seats each.
