5 new cases in Mizoram

AIZAWL, July 17 - With five more fresh cases reported today, Mizoram�s COVID-19 tally has risen to 272.

An official release stated that the five new cases were detected from among 248 samples tested at the Zoram Medical College on Thursday. The five new positive patients, including a woman, are civilians � three from Aizawl district and two from Serchhip district. They had returned from Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Nagaland and Tripura.

The infected persons are aged between 20 and 39 years, who have been placed under institutional quarantine facility, the release said, adding that the patients are asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, samples of 24 COVID-19 active patients, including 12 BSF jawans, were tested again at the Lunglei Civil Hospital on Thursday and 20 of them came out negative in the first test.

Mizoram has so far reported 272 COVID-19 cases, out of which 112 are active and 160 are recovered cases.
