5 more COVID-19 patients die in State

GUWAHATI, Aug 6 - Five more COVID-19 patients succumbed to their infections in the State today taking the total count of deaths to 126.

Those who lost their lives are Asab Uddin (50) and Sentulal Saha (70) of Karimganj, Manuranjan Paul (63) of Dibrugarh, Ram Surat Gowala (77) of Tinsukia and Dhiren Kalita (55) of Kamrup (Metro).

Earlier today, eleven employees of the State Secretariat were found positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen tests, days after 100 per cent attendance was allowed in government offices. They were subsequently quarantined.

Sources informed that the authorities would continue to get tests done for almost all the employees of the government departments in the next few days.

Eight employees of the 108 emergency service have also tested positive in its Guwahati office. Sources said one of them frequented the Sarusajai Covid care centre.

By tomorrow, the 108 authority will carry out Covid tests for its entire staff. Till date, as many as 16 employees of the emergency service have tested positive.

Meanwhile, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has allowed IMFL �On� shops (bars) to operate from Friday onwards between 10 am and 5 pm.

Sources informed that few more relaxations in terms of opening of shops and business establishments are likely to be announced soon.
