5 members of snatchers gang arrested

NAGAON, Sept 1 - Acting on a tip off, Nagaon police led by Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Mohan Lal Meena arrested five members of a gang of snatchers belonging to outside the State from various locations of the district on Monday last.

According to sources, the arrested members of the gang have been identified as Jimmy Gowala, Rakesh Gowala, Amar Gowala of Jalpaiguri in West Bengal; Bharat Yadav and Dharma Kr Yadav of Katihar in Bihar.

Sources claimed that the gang was involved in several cash and other snatching cases in Hojai and Sonitpur district and the gang also planned to do the same near United Bank of India at Maruwaripatty here in the town.

But following an intelligence input, Nagaon police in civil dress launched an operation near Nagaon Maruwaripatty area chasing one of the gang members up to Samaguri. Police first arrested Jimmy along with a motorcycle (AS01 DY 4830) and based on his statement, they subsequently arrested two other members of the gang � Bharat Yadav and Dharma Yadav from Nagaon town.

Similarly, during interrogation, police were able to trace other two � Rakesh and Amar from Salna area who took shelter in the house of one Islam Anchari at Amoni under Samaguri PS. Sources, however, said that since many cases were registered against the gang in Hojai and Tezpur, Nagaon police handed over all the members of the gang to Hojai police on Tuesday.
