5 kidnappers nabbed in Garo Hills

TURA, July 18 - In a major bust, five members of a gang were arrested from Dobasipara locality here yesterday. The five were allegedly involved in kidnappings and murder of traders from Assam recently. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the arrested men.

The police said that two of the arrested criminals are members of the now disbanded ANVC (B).

According to police, Jesper M Sangma of Adokgre and Elarin N Sangma, Jangjang R Marak, Tesrang M Sangma and Sukha R Marak, all from Dobasipara, were arrested by the police. A 9 mm pistol, one magazine and three live rounds were recovered from the group.

Two of them, Jesper and Jangjang have confessed to being members of the now disbanded ANVC (B) and all of them are strongly suspected to be a part of a kidnappers gang in the killing of Assam-based traders in the Ampati and Tura areas�, said SP of West Garo Hills, Mukesh Singh.

Sister killed to buy mobile

Aizawl, July 18 - A 16-year-old boy, who wanted to purchase a mobile handset, allegedly killed his sister and brother-in-law and looted Rs 36,000 from them in a village in the district, police said.

The boy confessed to the Juvenile Justice Board that he had killed the couple on July 7 and took away the money, said Aizawl district SP C Laldina. The boy was arrested from his home a day after the crime, he added. � PTI
