JORHAT, May30 � Four girls and a boy of different private junior colleges of Jorhat district brought laurels to the city and its three nearby areas like Titabor, Teok and Kakojan by bagging second, eight and tenth position respectively in the results of the Arts stream of Higher Secondary Final Examination, 2015.
Securing 472 marks out of a total 500, Syeda Jarin Rehnaz of Titabor based Pragjyotika Junior College achieved the second position among the 10 top ranks while her classmate Daisy Das placed her name in the 10th position of the result-sheet by obtaining 462 marks.
Along with Daisy, Sabnam Richa Sonowal of Crescent Academy of the city and Hasina Begum of Kakojan based Arohan Academy brought accolades to their localities by bagging the 10th position in the examination. Inspiring the students of poor rural background Daisy said that poverty was not an obstacle for achieving success in life.
Another brilliant student of rural background Bishnu Pal Hazarika of Teok�s Jnanpith Academy got the 8th position by securing 464 marks. Talking to this correspondent, he said that he would try his best to be an IAS officer in future as he was deeply motivated to serve the State as a successful administrative officer for all round development.
�I am a student of Teliagaon in Teok. Since my childhood I have witnessed several problems in our localities and many other parts of the State. I want to be successful IAS officer who can directly serve for the betterment of rural and urban localities of our State,� said Bishnu.
He also said that he would study Political Science as a major subject for graduation in a rural college of Jorhat district.
It is to be mentioned that Jorhat recorded pass percentage of 83.89 (against 82.20 of 2014) in Arts, 91.50 (against 93.75 of 2014) in Science) and 88.92 (against 89.53 of 2014) in Commerce respectively in this year�s HS final examination.
Out of a total 9,274 candidates of Arts stream of the district 7,780 passed in the examination and 1,371 of them secured first division while 2,624 and 3,785 got second and third divisions respectively. In Commerce 650 candidates passed out of total 731 appearing. 109 of the successful candidates got first division in Commerce while 275 and 266 secured second and third divisions.
In Science stream 1,916 candidates of a total 2,094 (appearing) passed in the examinations and 1,402 of them bagged first division.
