By Correspondent

IMPHAL, Sept 29 With the rejection of nomination paper of one candidate, five candidates are in fray for the forthcoming by-poll to Hiyanglam Assembly seat in Manipur, reports said.

The five candidates are Maibam Dhanabir Singh of BJP, Mayengbam Amutombi of Manipur Peoples Party, Elengbam Dwijamani of Congress, Dr Y Radheshyam of All India Trinamool Congress and Th Laiba of Manipur State Congress Party.

Reports said the nomination paper of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Manipur State candidate Yumnam Thambou has been rejected by the Returning Officer Thoubal on the ground that his party was not in the national or State party list. The legal counsel of the AITC, Aribam Gautam Sharma said he will challenge the ROs decision.

The by-election is scheduled to be held on October 17 and the counting will be held on October 19.

In a press conference held at Manipur Press Club here today, Gautam said the ROs rejection of AITC, Manipur State candidate was not reasonable. He claimed that AITC, Manipur State has qualified to become a State party.
