GUWAHATI, May 22 � The special operation unit of Assam Police today arrested five persons on charges of extortion from a city-based businessman.
Those arrested have been identified as Nekibur Rahman, Md Aziz Rahman, Rinku Boro, Manoj Boro and Biju Ali.
Police said that though there do not seem to be any link between the arrested persons and militant outfit. Investigation, however, is on.
Sources stated that a demand of Rs 50 lakh was made by the extortionists.
�After the matter came to the notice of the police, a track was kept on the suspicious elements. Cell phone records were also accessed before cracking down on the culprits,� the sources said.
While four of the arrested hails from Guwahati, the other is a resident of Jagiroad.
�All of them are unemployed and the idea was to earn quick money,� police said.
