GUWAHATI, Sept 26 Five young Assamese have made it to India Todays list of Indias 35 youth icons for contributing in different ways towards the uplift of the society. They are Indrani Medhi, Suresh Ranjan Goduka, Bhabananda Borbayan, Uttam Teron and Sattyaki dcom Bhuyan.

Indrani Medhi, working for Microsoft has made computers accessible to neo-literates and non-users, while Suresh involved with various socio-cultural and literary activities has been working relentlessly for bringing a change in the young generation by promoting positive thinking.

On the other hand, Bhabananda Borbayan has left no stone unturned to popularise Satriya culture both inside and outside the country. He along with his troupe of Satriya artistes have performed outside the country, winning accolades as well as affection of the international community. Retaining tradition as well as experimenting with the Satriya dance form keeping in mind the transitions in the society, Borbayan has taken Satriya culture closer to the masses.

Uttam Teron, a tribal youth of Pamohi, a village on the outskirts of the capital city, has brought a positive change in his nondescript locality by establishing a school called Parijat Academy for the underprivileged children. The school that has been providing free education has caught the attention of the international community for the change it has ushered in a village that has been lagging behind in all developmental fronts including education. Parijat Academy apart from providing education to children of daily wage earners, farm labourers, cutivators, wood cutters etc, has set up education centres in remote areas and introduced tribal women to many income generating avenues.
