BISWANATH CHARIALI, March 8 � Five persons lost their lives on the spot and three others were seriously injured in a road accident that took place at Gohpur in Sonitpur district around 9 am today.
The accident occurred at Hazarika Chuk village under Gohpur Police Station when a Tezpur-bound bus (AS 12 E 6720) collided head-on with a Magic vehicle (AS 12 E 8237) going towards Kalabari on the NH-15.
The deceased have been identified as Maina Tengal (31), who drove the Magic vehicle, handyman Abinash Biswas (20), Gobin Bhuyan (20) from Kalabari, Miten Hazarika (31) from Kakila and Ranjit Das (40) from Harmutty.
Three others, Rantu Barhai from Kakila, Chandan Bishwash from Kolkata and Biju Bhuyan from Kalabari, were seriously injured. They were admitted at hospitals in Tezpur.
The incident has created a sensation in the locality and the public have demanded better road safety measures.
