5-day training on road safety audit begins

GUWAHATI, Nov 12 - A five-day training programme on �Road Safety Audit� supported by the World Bank under the National Highways Interconnectivity Improvement Project (NHIIP), and jointly organised by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, and the Asian Institute of Transport Development, commenced at the IIT Guwahati today.

The event is part of the initiative of IIT Guwahati to provide a platform for enrichment of technical know-how of highway professionals and practitioners for building safe roads as well as for interaction of highway professionals to address the burning issues of road safety in a comprehensive manner.

The inaugural session of the training programme was attended by Rajesh Kemprai, Commissioner and Special Secretary to the Government of Assam; Prof PS Robi, Deputy Director of IIT Guwahati; Prof Sharad Gokhale, Head (in-charge) of Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Guwahati; Bipul Ananda Pathak, Additional Commissioner of Transport, Government of Assam; Riten Kumar Singh, Regional Officer at the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and Prof PK Sarkar, Director (Transportation) at the Asian Institute of Transport Development (AITD).

The training programme will have technical sessions by eminent speakers on topics related to road safety audit.

Speakers from different parts of the country, including resource persons from IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, AITD and the World Bank will deliver talks during the five-day programme.
