5-day Holi fest at Doul Govinda

NORTH GUWAHATI, March 3 � Amidst much enthusiasm and religious fervour, the Holi festival, the festival of colours, would be observed with a 5-day programme beginning from March 7 next. The festival will start with �Mesh Dah� at 7.30 pm in the riverside where Lord Govinda will be worshipped by Naam Kirtan, �Hom� and �Meshdah�, after which the Lord would be placed in His �Doul�. On March 8, the Mahapuja of Doul full moonlight would be performed. The day would be marked by programmes like holy bath of the Lord, Naam prasanga, Bhagavat Path, Nagara naam, offering of �phaku� to the Lord, �Hom�, distribution of bhog and prasad.

Similar rituals and programmes would be performed on March 9 and 10. In the evening there would be cultural functions on both the days. On March 11, i.e., the concluding day of the festival, morning programmes would start with �maha snan� of the Lord followed by naam prasanga by the devotees. The �Mahapuja� would come to an end at 10 am. At 11 am, there would be brand party concert followed by distribution of bhog and prasad, besides distribution of meals to devotees.

The colour religious procession would start at 2.30 pm. Distribution of prasad would be followed by �ascending to the throne� by the Lord. The celebration would be marked by jatra performance to be performed by Satya Narayan Natya Dal.
