GUWAHATI, Feb 25 � Five persons including Hariprasanna Hazarika have been arrested by the City Police in connection with Thursday�s killing even as investigators seemed to be buying time to bring the shocking incident to a logical conclusion.
Besides Hazarika, those arrested include Hazarika�s personal security officer (PSO) Pankaj Arandhara, Rituparna Hazarika, Amit Kumar and his driver Dilip Hazarika.
The arrests have been made on charges of murder.
The girl � detained along with the five � was later released by the police.
Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Deepak Choudhury told The Assam Tribune that even though Hazarika had stated that he and his PSO fired in self-defence, there are questions still unanswered.
�We have seized both the weapons including the one used by Hazarika and sent for necessary examination,� Choudhury said.
�Though it would be too early to comment on the real cause behind the incident, investigation till now has indicated towards business rivalry. We are nevertheless exploring all angles,� he informed.
He further informed that as both Hariprasanna and Mriganka Hazarika, one of the deceased, hail from Sivasagar district, we have asked the Sivasagar police to provide us with relevant information regarding both the parties.
Asked if there was any
romance angle involved, Choudhury said if anything such has led to the incident, the matter would definitely be probed.
It needs mention here that two persons, including Mriganka Hazarika were killed after Hariprasanna Hazarika and his PSO opened fire on them.
Meanwhile, the arrested persons were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup and remanded to four days police custody.
